I-Tal
Reggae | Cleveland OH

I-tal has had numerous members throughout it's 31 year history. When we started gigging in '78 there was a band from Kent that played a few reggae songs in their sets (Terra Plane) but we were the first "American" reggae band to play all reggae songs or versions nightly. To my knowledge there was only one reggae band playing inconsistently at the time we started. That band was Black Lion. Way before I-tal began I can remember jamming with Shadow & Beebo of Black Lion at a studio that myself, Bob C. and Ralph Tubbs would practice on 71st and Euclid above the Cocoa Lounge! Somewhere around 1977. Shadow played melodica (it was killer!!!). The name of the band was "Exra Sauce". The name of the band was supposed to be "Extra Sauce" but when we wrote it on the band wall, Ralph forgot the "t" in Extra. There is a picture of Exra Sauce in My Photos. It's the band that played "open mike night" at the Coach House and wound up becoming I-tal. Original members from 1978: Dave Smeltz, Dave Valentine, John Wagner, Bob Caruso and George Gordon. Other early and later members: Chris Dunmore, Carlos Jones, Russ Richards and Chris Desantis. I offer my deepest respect and gratitude to those members who are no longer here with us: Davey Fields, Camye Brown, Dave Lyons and my old road manager and roommate Toney Johnson "but for the grace of GOD go I" I never got to thank you guys for being the powerful and talented additions to the band and to my life. It would not have been I-tal without you. I hope to let others know and appreciate you guys as much as I did. Thank you from my heart and rest in peace.

Outlaws I & I
Reggae | Cleveland OH

We're a band! We play music. Some would call us a reggae band, some would say we're groovemaster punk rasta hipsters from outer space.

This the the latest incarnation of Butchie B's musical vision, featuring his songs and vocals; the mile-wide drum grooves of Rod Riesman, the seismic bassquakes of Chopper, the soulful git-box stylings of Gino, and the symphonic polytonal keyboard sonorities of eddie mars.
