Joshua Smith Quartet: Featuring Carmen Castaldi and Keigo Hirakawa, Bass TBD

Joshua Smith is a saxophonist native to Cleveland and residing in the San Francisco Bay area. He has played with a wide variety of notable musicians and bands over the last 20 years. He has performed and toured with a variety of influential jazz and creative music musicians such as Nate Wooley, Chris Jonas, Joe Maneri, Cuong Vu, Scott Amendola, Bobby Previte, and Trevor Dunn, among many others. His approach to jazz embraces a wide stylistic swath encompassing a repertoire of straight ahead jazz standards and free improvisation. He formed the Cleveland avant trio birth in 1999 and they have recently begun performing again after a long hiatus and have a new record slated for release in 2017. On this performance at the BOP STOP he will be joined by Cleveland stalwart jazz and improvisational drummer Carmen Castaldi with whom Joshua has been performing with for the past two decades. This performance will also feature Cleveland area native Keigo Hirakawa on piano. Joshua and Keigo released a record together 2010 and have been playing music with each other since their high school days in the Ohio Jazz Orchestra for youth, which became The Settlement Jazz Orchestra. He also performs regularly throughout the San Francisco Bay Area on jazz saxophone and Bluegrass acoustic guitar.
