Laurel School for Girls’ Feminist Society will be hosting a poetry slam at Serendipity Cleveland near the Cedar Lee Theater, a few doors down from the CVS.
We planned this slam after Feminist society hosted a showing of India’s Daughter, a documentary about the gang rape and murder of Jyoti Singh, (Movie Promo: <https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YROBVxk17cM>)
whose death created a stupendous uproar against the treatment of rape victims and women in India.
The film was supposed to premiere in India on National Women’s Day, but was banned on the premise of causing too much civil unrest.

At Laurel, the movie disturbed and touched every person who heard the story of Jyoti and her family, and many people were left with raw emotions, aching hearts, and a need for closure. Many girls felt like engaging the public on an issue that has torn apart many lives around the world, and even affects women and men in America now will be a starting point to coming to terms with dealing with inequality in our own lives.

Feminist Society would like to give everyone in the area a chance to express how they feel about the issues that surround India's Daughter (or the film itself if you have seen the film) with us, and share their ideas and thoughts in a way that will move the conversation forward creatively. Feel free to come listen, perform, discuss, or just chill with us on the 28th! (You can sing or play instruments as well).
