PJ Morton
R&B | New Orleans LA

New Orleans has always been a musical town, but it’s got a fresh sound with the return of native son, famed solo artist and “Live Show Killer” PJ Morton, founder and CEO of Morton Records. Influenced by acts ranging from the Beatles and James Taylor to Stevie Wonder, Donny Hathaway, and his own father, gospel singer Paul S. Morton, PJ Morton has spent a lifetime in and around music. Hitting the stage as a member of Freestyle Nation, he forayed his experience as a composer into a Grammy Award-winning turn as a producer on India.Arie’s sophomore album, going on to produce for such artists as Jermaine Dupri, LL Cool J, Musiq Soulchild, and Trinitee 5:7. He not only won both Dove Awards and Stellar Awards for his work with gospel singer DeWayne Woods, but earned the prestigious distinction of spending 70 weeks on the Billboard Charts with Woods’ single “Let Go, Let God”. After penning and composing a commissioned song for blockbuster hit comedy Couples Retreat, Morton was invited to join hit pop band Maroon 5 as a keyboardist and vocalist. Continuing as a solo artist while touring with the band, Morton’s hit single “Only One”, featuring the legendary Stevie Wonder, earned him his first Grammy nod as an artist.
The artist behind the celebrated 2015 live album Live Show Killer, Morton continues to set the music landscape ablaze with his electrifying stage show, but is now also in the business is of making stars of others. Deeply passionate about developing the vast raw talent in his hometown, he borrowed a page from Berry Gordy’s playbook and created a Louisiana-based, modern day Motown. Morton Records boasts an actual building in New Orleans, complete with soundstage and live stage show space that fully develops and prepares its acts for life as professional entertainers. Morton Records has already released his own mix tape Bounce & Soul Volume I featuring Stevie Wonder, Lil Wayne, Juvenile, and Trombone Shorty.
