Trans Ally Training And Panel Talk

Waterloo Arts, in partnership with the LGBT Center of Greater Cleveland, is offering an opportunity for anyone interested in learning more about the concepts of gender identity and gender expression and, the challenges faced by those who don’t fit neatly into the binary boxes that our language and culture have built. The Trans Ally Training will be held on Sunday, March 15th from 3–5:30 pm at Waterloo Arts. Ryan Zymler of the LGBT Center will start by presenting basic concepts of gender and then discuss some of the social issues that transgender and gender nonconforming people face. Following the educational workshop, Ryan will moderate a discussion with five members of the trans community and open the floor for questions. Hearing personal stories may be the most compelling way to create empathy and the understanding needed to help Cleveland become a more gender inclusive community. Gender is for all of us, whether you take your gender for granted or you are acutely aware of your gender, a deeply personal part of our identity. Understanding gender from different perspectives can contribute to a deeper knowledge of ourselves and society at large. After the panel talk, there will be time to socialize and enjoy refreshments while we hand out beautiful Trans Ally stickers designed by Agnes Studio. The stickers are waterproof and can be displayed on your business to show your support or they are perfect for that car bumper, computer or wherever you like to stick your stickers. And to top off the fun, Collinwood artist Ali Lukacsy will help you screen-print a T-shirt. We had to throw in an art project, didn't we!
