The Chakra system is a model for understanding how we function in the world and give us the opportunity to develop a better way of responding to whatever life brings our way.

Most of us live in the world through the predominate psychology of the lower Chakras, which are related to meeting the essential needs of day-to-day living. One of the goals of yoga is to transcend the basic drives of the lower chakras and begin to elevate and integrate their energies into the work of the higher chakras. Not only does this improve our outlook on life, it brings more awareness to how we can apply the more positive qualities associated with the lower Chakras.

While the yoga practiced on the mat lends some insight into our Chakras, it is the yoga practiced off the mat that ultimately allows us to tap into our higher potential.
