Next month, the Supreme Court will hear arguments in a landmark civil rights case, deciding whether all 50 states must allow gay and lesbian Americans to marry. One of the four cases the Court will consider was brought by two local nurses, April DeBoer and Jane Rowse, who challenged Michigan's ban on gay marriage and second-parent gay adoption.

Tuesday, March 24th, University of Detroit Mercy School of Law is hosting a talk by Dana Nessel, co-counsel for the DeBoer - Rowse family. Ms. Nessel will discuss the history and progression of DeBoer v. Snyder and what it means for the U.S. Supreme Court to hear this landmark case. Her talk will be followed by a Q & A session.

A shuttle van will be available to provide free transportation to and from the event for students from the McNichols campus. Van space is limited: please call Rosemary Weatherston, Director of UDM Women’s and Gender Studies, at 313-993-1083 to reserve a spot.
