Presented by Cycle Lab and Peschl Sports, Cycle Sunday is a green, community-driven movement where cyclists come together to celebrate this much-loved sport in the heart of Durban.
For one glorious morning, the M4 freeway turns into a completely car-free coastal playground, giving cyclists of every age and ability the chance to cruise from Moses Mabhida Stadium to Portland Drive, Umhlanga Rocks.
No hooting cars and no stress… just the sound of tyres on tar and views of the sparkling Indian Ocean.
What to expect from Cycle Sunday
Running from 5am to 9am, this relaxed ride is perfect for everyone; whether it's kids wobbling on their first bikes, fitness fans clocking a few festive season kilometres, parents pulling bike trailers filled with half-awake toddlers or weekend warriors who just want a lekker sunrise ride.
For just R50, riders can tackle as much or as little of the 31km route as they like, with turnaround points at 11km, 16km, and 22km.
There’s no formal start line; simply hop on the M4 at any on-ramp and join the flow.
Just remember your bike, helmet, and entry pass. Expect water points, mechanical support, chilled holiday vibes, and even some on-route fun activations to keep the energy high.
More than just the ride
If you’re bringing little riders, don’t miss the Marvel Kids Bike Festival at the Moses Mabhida Stadium Lawn. There will be mini bike courses, music, entertainment, delicious food vendors, and a Marvel-themed race for cyclists aged 12 and under (20-inch bikes or smaller).
It’s basically guaranteed hero status for parents. Post-ride, stick around from 7am to 10am for music, some safety talks, and the kind of holiday atmosphere Durban does best.
