If you were travelling through southern KwaZulu-Natal over the past few days, you might have sighted a determined young man in a wheelchair making his way towards the coast.

That was Muzi Fodo – an activist and unstoppable force who undertook a gruelling 190km journey from Harding to Durban.

With the help of his supportive team, Muzi has officially completed his four-day push to the coast, but his mission is far from over.

Muzi’s completed route:

Day 1: Harding → Paddock
Day 2: Paddock → Port Shepstone
Day 3: Port Shepstone → Scottburgh
Day 4: Scottburgh → Durban (Amanzimtoti)

A Journey Powered by Purpose

Muzi’s inspirational effort forms part of his campaign, ‘Diffabled, Not Disabled’, which aims to raise awareness about accessibility and to fund active wheelchairs for those in need.

These wheelchairs aren’t standard; rather they’re light, agile, and custom-fitted, giving recipients the mobility and independence to study, work, explore, and live with dignity.

His passion stems from personal experience. After a motor vehicle accident in 2013 left him paralysed, Muzi refused to let disability dictate his future. Instead, he transformed his challenge into advocacy, pushing for better opportunities and visibility for South Africans living with disabilities.

“This journey was never just about the kilometres,” he said. “It’s about freedom, dignity, and the right for every diffabled person to live fully and independently.”

Welcomed Along the Way

During his journey, Muzi has received enormous community support, particularly as more people became aware of his mission.

From Renishaw Hills and Blue Marlin Hotel in Scottburgh to 305 Guest House and Thirsty Whale in Amazimtoti, Muzi and his team have been well cared for by local communities.

Still Some Way to Go

Although the physical challenge is complete, Muzi’s fundraising and awareness campaign continues. You can still support his efforts to provide life-changing active wheelchairs and strengthen advocacy for accessibility in South Africa.
