The Durban City Orchestra returns this August with From Stage to Screen II - a feel-good celebration of the unforgettable music behind some of cinema and musical theatre's biggest moments.

There's something magical about hearing a movie soundtrack live.

The moment those first notes of Harry Potter begin, you're back at Hogwarts. A few bars of Jurassic Park and suddenly you're standing at the park gates. Cue Pirates of the Caribbean, and you're ready to set sail with Captain Jack Sparrow.

It’s a spectacular way to spend an evening!

A soundtrack for the film buffs

Following the success of their first From Stage to Screen performances, the orchestra is back with another carefully curated collection of iconic film scores and musical theatre favourites.

Audiences can expect music from:

  • Disney at the Movies
  • Harry Potter
  • Jurassic Park
  • Pirates of the Caribbean
  • How to Train Your Dragon
  • The Lord of the Rings
  • The Phantom of the Opera
  • Forrest Gump (Feather Theme)
  • Superman
  • Hook

It's essentially a greatest-hits album for film lovers, all performed by a live orchestra.

One orchestra, three chances to catch the show

One of South Africa's longest-running orchestras, the Durban City Orchestra has been bringing live orchestral music to local audiences for decades.

The orchestra's 35-member ensemble rehearses weekly under the baton of resident conductor Charl van der Merwe, alongside concert master Jitske Brien, delivering performances that continue to attract loyal audiences across Durban.

From introducing kids to orchestral music to reliving your favourite movie moments, this is the kind of concert that appeals across generations.
