Plan ahead for potential delays from this week.

Motorists travelling on the N2 north of Richards Bay are advised to plan ahead for potential delays from this week, as a series of abnormal load movements will take place along this route.
From Wednesday, 4 February to Wednesday, 11 February, heavy-duty abnormal loads will be transported between Richards Bay and Mpumalanga. The operation involves 12- and 13-axle vehicle combinations carrying two transformers, each weighing approximately 215 tonnes. These loads will be moved by Eskom Rotek Industries as part of essential infrastructure logistics.
Due to the size and weight of the transformers, traffic flow along affected sections of the N2 and surrounding roads is expected to be slower than usual at certain times. If you’re planning to drive along this route, expect intermittent delays, temporary stoppages, and possible diversions, especially when the abnormal loads are going through towns or narrower sections of road.
To minimise disruption and ensure safety of motorists, these abnormal loads will be transported during the day only, between 6am and 6pm from Monday to Friday. There will be no movements over the weekends. All journeys will be conducted under the supervision of RTi Traffic Authority escorts to keep this as smooth and safe as possible.
Areas expected to be affected by these movements include:
If you’re driving in any of these areas of the next few days, make sure you remain alert, follow instructions from traffic officials, and avoid risky overtaking near the abnormal load convoy. Where possible, use alternative routes!
