Travelling between King Shaka International Airport and Durban this weekend? Expect overnight closures on the N2 and plan your route before you leave.

If you're heading home from the airport late on Saturday, 11 July, best you factor in some extra travel time.
The South African National Roads Agency (SANRAL) has announced a temporary overnight closure of the N2 southbound between the Umdloti Interchange and the Mount Edgecombe Interchange.
According to SANRAL, the overnight closure is needed to safely install two large overhead sign gantries, including one that spans the entire width of the southbound carriageway.
"Construction is getting to an advanced stage on the N2 and now requires installation of road sign gantries. This closure is part of the ongoing upgrade process for the N2 between KwaMashu and Umdloti," said Jason Lowe, SANRAL's KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Specialist Geometrics Engineer.
Traffic management measures - including temporary signage, barriers and traffic calming systems - will be in place throughout the operation to ensure the safety of motorists and construction teams.

Motorists travelling south towards Durban will be diverted via alternative routes during the closure. SANRAL has warned that these detours are likely to increase travel times, so it’s best to leave earlier than usual.
Heavy vehicles cannot rejoin the N2 via Umhlanga (Armstrong Avenue/M41) because of tight turning circles. Instead, trucks and other large vehicles should continue via the M4 towards Durban or use the R102 as an alternative route.
Public transport operators have also been advised to inform drivers of the closure.
