One of Durban's biggest Women's Month events returns this Sunday, 2 August, as the Totalsports Women's Race brings thousands of runners to the city's iconic beachfront.
While the sold-out event promises an electric atmosphere for participants and spectators alike, motorists should be prepared for temporary road closures and traffic disruptions around the Suncoast precinct, Snell Parade and several key routes leading into the city.
The race starts and finishes at the Suncoast Casino P3 Parking Area, with activities beginning from 6am. Some roads, however, will close as early as 4am to allow organisers to prepare the route.

Roads affected on Sunday
The following roads and intersections will be temporarily closed during the event:
- Snell Parade (P3 to Battery Beach Road): Closed from 4am until runners have cleared the finish area.
- Casino Circle and Suncoast P3 access: Closed from 4am.
- Snell Parade and Athlone Drive: Closed from 6.30am.
- Athlone Drive and M4 ramps: Closed from 7am.
- Masabalala Yengwa Avenue southbound (Athlone Drive to Battery Beach Road): Closed from 7am.
- Masabalala Yengwa Avenue northbound (Battery Beach Road to Archie Gumede Place): Closed from 7.15am.
- Somtseu Road, Jeff Taylor Crescent and the bus lane: Closed from 7.15am.
- KE Masinga Road, Eden Crescent and Kingsmead Way: Closed from 7.30am.
- Masabalala Yengwa Avenue southbound (Kingsmead Way to Battery Beach Road): Closed from 7.30am.
- Battery Beach Road: Closed from 7am.
- Snell Parade will remain closed until race officials confirm it is safe to reopen, with the event precinct expected to remain active until around midday.
Roads will reopen progressively as the final runners and event sweep vehicles pass each section of the route.

Expect delays around the beachfront
Traffic will be managed by eThekwini Metro Police together with event marshals, but motorists heading towards the beachfront, Moses Mabhida Stadium, Suncoast Casino, or Durban North on Sunday morning should allow extra travel time or consider alternative routes.
If you're planning a morning walk, breakfast or beach outing, arriving before the closures begin - or waiting until later in the day - could save you time.

There'll be plenty of atmosphere too
For those of you heading to support the runners, expect a festive atmosphere with entertainment and activations along the route throughout the morning.
Spectators are encouraged to line the beachfront and cheer on thousands of women taking part in one of South Africa's premier road running events.
