Grab your mates and get ready to ride: the WOA Iqembu Cycle Challenge returns to Durban on 6 September, with 40km, 60km, 100km team-trial options..

Forget cycling solo. The WOA Iqembu Cycle Challenge is all about teamwork – and finding out whether your mates can actually hold a line when the pressure is on!
Iqembu means team, and that’s exactly what this race is about. Riders need to work together, maintain their formation and make every second count. The fastest team wins, but nobody gets to the finish line alone.
Returning to Durban for its fourth instalment, the popular team time-trial event takes over the M4 on Sunday, 6 September, with cyclists racing from the Moses Mabhida Stadium precinct along a fast, flat 20km out-and-back course.
There are three distances to choose from, so whether you’re a serious cycling squad, a corporate team, a group of friends or a family looking for a new challenge, there’s a starting line for you.
It's fast, flat and all about riding together , holding the line and chasing the clock.

The big one! Teams of five to eight riders tackle five laps of the 20km circuit, clocking up 100km in total.
The team’s time is recorded when its fifth rider crosses the finish line, meaning there’s no leaving your teammates behind if you want a fast time.
The 100km event starts from 7am, with teams leaving at staggered intervals. Road bikes and TT bikes are allowed.
There are Men’s, Women’s and Mixed categories, with a mixed team required to have at least one woman among the five riders whose crossing records the team's finish time.

Not quite ready for 100km? The 60km event could be your sweet spot.
Teams of four to six riders complete three laps of the 20km circuit. The finishing time is recorded when the fourth rider crosses the line, so teamwork is still very much the name of the game.
Men’s, Women’s and Mixed categories are available, with mixed teams required to have at least one woman among the four riders crossing the finish line.

For those of you wanting the team-time-trial experience without committing to a marathon-on-two-wheels situation, this is the option!
Teams of two to four riders complete two laps of the 20km course, with the team's time recorded when the second rider crosses the finish line.
Again, there are Men’s, Women’s and Mixed categories. For a mixed team, at least one of the two riders must be a woman.
Each cyclist who enters gets custom cycle race socks, a finisher’s medal, a goodie bag and finish drinks.
The event is open to pretty much every kind of cycling crew – from clubs and training groups to families, fun teams and serious racers. You don’t have to be a Lycra-clad pro to get involved.
So grab your cycling crew, pick your distance and start practising that formation. At the WOA Iqembu Cycle Challenge, teamwork could be the difference between a good ride and a great time.
