Following on from news that Edinburgh residents will be able to watch some of their favourite Christmas films at a drive-in cinema this winter, Edinburgh Zoo has announced a season of on-site family-friendly screenings including classics such as ‘The Jungle Book’, ‘Elf’ and ‘Frozen’.

Throughout November, the zoo will show wildlife-themed family favourites such as ‘The Jungle Book’, 'Rio 2' and ‘A Bug’s Life’ at the Budongo Trail every weekend, with cinema-goers getting the opportunity to meet some of the animals featured in the films (including snakes, exotic birds and giant stick insects) ahead of the screenings.

To add a dash of Christmas spirit, there'll also be screenings of festive movies throughout December and in the first weekend of January. These will include ‘Elf’, ‘Frozen’, ‘The Polar Express’ and ‘Happy Feet 2’, which scores a double-whammy for being zoo-related AND Christmassy.

Films will be shown on Saturdays, Sundays and Mondays at 10.30am and are included in the prize of zoo admission. No booking is required and entrance is on a first-come, first-served basis, with registration starting at 10am.

Meanwhile, adult film fans have the opportunity to see a unique after-hours showing of ‘The Dawn of the Planet of the Apes’ later this month – screened within the chimp enclosure. Details for all screenings are available on the Edinburgh Zoo website.

Edinburgh Zoo, Corstorphine Road, Nov 6-Jan 4.
