An accomplished little venue that has been around since 1999, Number 16 takes its name from its Byres Road address. The dining area covers two levels, giving the ground floor a below stairs feel, while the mezzanine is more open but don't expect to be surrounded by acres of space; red walls and natural wood tones dominate the décor.
The Euro-bistro menu could bring you three courses starting with roast Toulouse sausage with parmesan polenta mash and spiced Puy lentils; much accessorised slow-cooked ox cheek as a main with creamed savoy cabbage, pancetta, roast garlic and parsley mash, root vegetable crisps and a rosemary jus; banana and peanut crumble with gingerbread ice cream for dessert.
With à la carte mains all pegged at under £20, and a few bottles off the low end of the wine list also under £20, dining here won't distress your credit card. The set lunch meanwhile is great value. Given the restaurant's size booking is advisable, especially at weekends.
