If it weren't for a handful of very supportive and creative people, 13 celsius simply would not be what it is today. One of those people is local sommelier Antonio Gianola. Currently coordinating the wine inventory at the Houston Wine Merchant, Antonio has played a hugely important role in shaping the way Houstonians drink, appreciate and understand wine.
Mike Sammons met Antonio while working for him at Houston's very own Da Marco Italian Restaurant and it was through Antonio's contagious zeal for seeking out the finest and most unique wines available that Sammons became fascinated with wine and wine culture. Moreover, throughout the nearly 10 years that 13 celsius has been in operation, Antonio proved helpful and supportive innumerable times, so much so that his phone number is permanently scrawled into a shelf in the bar office, just in case anyone ever has a difficult wine-related question. In short, we just couldn't do this if it weren't for Antonio!
In an effort to show our appreciation, we have invited Antonio to compose a list of some of his favorite wines, which we will feature by the bottle. Order from this list and a portion of sales will go to a charity, the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, which is dear to Antonio's heart and, by extension, to our hearts as well.
