If it weren’t for the Greeks, modern day winemaking would not exist. Certain viticultural practices perfected by the Greeks thousands of years ago are still being used today. Unfortunately, many wine drinkers foster negative associations with Greek wine. However, the Greeks still make exceptionally delicious wines that deliver an abundance of versatility. They range from bone dry to cloyingly sweet, very light and clean to heavy and lush. Moreover, the Greeks are making not only red, white and rosé wines, but also sparkling and sweet wines.

On Tuesday, February 16th, we have the honor of hosting winemaker, Annegret Stamos, from Kokkinochori, Kavala in Greece. Domaine Biblia Chora is situated on the slopes of Mount Pangeon in northern Greece and was named after the ancient grape Biblios Oenos, which was brought by the Phoenicians and cultivated on the mountain’s slopes. In ancient times, the peak of Pangeon was the home of a cult of Dionysus and was a source of revenue for Alexander the Great’s campaigns. The grape Biblios Oenos was most likely consumed by the ancient Greeks in vast quantities. Today, Domaine Biblia Chora is one of only a handful of wineries still working with it.

We will taste some of the estate’s best wines, including the Biblia Oenos, while Annegret explains the unique vinicultural practices and history of the estate (and how to correctly pronounce the names of the grapes).

This tasting will be of five different wines and as always, we will offer bottles to-go at a special one-day-only retail price.

Tuesday, February 16th
5:30-7:30 p.m.
$13 (not including tax and gratuity)
