New to this year’s event is an educator's open house component that highlights educational offerings of Theater District organizations.

Families with children will enjoy the Houston Symphony Instrument Petting Zoo; face painting, behind-the-scenes tours and stage demonstrations at the Alley Theatre in recognition of the 400th anniversary of Shakespeare’s death; mini introductory ballet classes throughout the day; and a special visit by Daniel Tiger.

Tickets are available for purchase for the Australian Pink Floyd Show at 8 p.m. at Revention Music Center and two performances at 7:30 p.m. at the Alley Theatre: A Night With Janis Joplin, a play written and directed by Randy Johnson, and Hand to God, by Cypress native Robert Askins.

A partial lane closure of streets throughout the Theater District will allow festival-goers to walk freely between venues, enjoying outdoor pop-up performances and stopping at food trucks along the route. Trolleys will be available to transport guests wishing to ride rather than walk between venues. The Buffalo Bayou Partnership will provide free boat rides from Fish Plaza at the Wortham Theater Center, offering visitors an alternative view of the Theater District.

Theater District Open House is a program of Theater District Houston, and is sponsored by TransCanada; United Airlines; City of Houston; Houston First; METRO; ARUP; Waste Management; Chris Canonico and Lauren Soliz; Judy and Charles Tate; and Lovett.
