Drum Workshop

Hosted by Adam Nicholas Carman, professional hand drummer and drum maker of every local Houston outfit that ever required a talented percussionist, we will explore the ideas of what makes it a drum. Does it need skin? Wood? Metal? Force? Showcasing drums of various regions in various stages of dress, this hands on demonstration will prepare you with the mental tools needed to create your own drum.

DIY Drum Craft Station

Kids should play too! Enjoy the DIY craft station for make it and take it noisemakers while supplies last. You can also bring your own food particle free containers (yogurt cups, coffee cans, oatmeal canisters - pretty much anything cylindrical) to keep us from running out. Glue, glitter and acrylic paint will be provided.

"One time I made a drum out of a chip bag, ashtray, some rubber bands and a pencil." - A. Carman

Percussion Circle

Fire, metal, glass and more ignite your fingertips as they pound against the leather skin of the djembe. Artists and Craftsmen gather in their guilds with a hands on demonstration of basketweaving, blacksmithing, woodturning, metal work and more (follow the link below). The steady pound of steel on steel and the monotonous saw mingle with the whistling work song of your drum befitting of all seven dwarves and hobbits alike. Bring your drums, tambourines and noisemakers or borrow one from the clan.
