Do you have chronic low back pain? Do you avoid backbends in class because you think you are too stiff? Do back bends hurt your lower back? Is there a fear factor inhibiting you from accessing backbends? Are you hitting a plateau in your practice as an intermediate student? If you answered yes to any one of the above, then this workshop is for you!

Learn tips and techniques to safely and progressively enter into and for intermediate students refine deeper backbends. Our peak pose in this workshop will be urdhva dhanurasana (wheel).

We will work progressively with props to enter safely and strongly into urdhva dhanurasana and I will provide multiple modifications throughout the workshop. For intermediate students this is a great workshop to refine and take your backbends to the next level. Students will walk away from this workshop with tips and techniques to strengthen the entire back, open the thoracic spine with emphasis on thoracic extension, open fully in the overhead plane (think strong and straight arms), and ground firmly in the legs.

This thoughtfully designed workshop using Light On Yoga as a guide and resource is designed to give you practical tools to take from the studio to your personal practice at home. If you don't have a personal practice at home these tips will definitely guide you to work with and deepen your backbending practice at the studio. You will have a new perspective and appreciation of backbends.
