Houston Police Department says
On Monday, July 27, at 10:30 a.m., there will be a formal ceremony to name HPD Headquarters in honor of retired Senior Police Officer Edward Alfred Thomas. Officer Thomas’ more than six decades of hard work and courage paved the way for African American and minority officers at the Houston Police Department.

Retired Senior Police Officer Thomas served HPD from January 12, 1948 until his retirement on July 23, 2011. During that time, he received numerous awards, commendations and letters of appreciation. He was one of the first African American police officers to integrate into HPD, though he had served nearly 20 years with HPD prior to the Civil Rights Movement. He endured challenges and difficulties most cannot imagine but persevered through it all.

Please use this event post to share memories or write a note to Mr. Thomas.
