Congress, Trump, and Putting “America First”

For the first time in a decade, Republicans have majorities in Congress and a Republican in the White House. What does this Republican dominance mean for policymaking in Washington, D.C.? Professor Theriault will put these trends into historical context before speculating about what this means for the economy, trade, and America’s place in the world

Sean Theriault is a professor of political science at the University of Texas, Austin. A Stanford graduate and Congressional expert, Sean has been interviewed numerous times by major news media outlets seeking his insights into the Congressional ‘machine’ at pivotal points during the last two American electoral races.

His extensive research into party polarization cements his position as a leading expert on the subject and has seen him author three books: “The Gingrich Senators: The Roots of Partisan Warfare in Congress”, “Party Polarization in the Congress” and “The Power of the People: Congressional Competition, Public Attention and Voter Retribution”.

A highly-regarded educator and mentor; Sean has received numerous teaching awards, including the Friar Society Teaching Fellowship, UT Professor of the Year, and the Regent’s Outstanding Teaching Award. In 2012 he was inducted into the Academy of Distinguished Teachers at UT. Sean has been an Adjunct Visiting Professor at the International Summer Campus, Korea University and will lecture at the Freie Universitat in Berlin this Spring.

Join us to hear Professor Theriault provide context for the current state of play in Washington and to discuss what these changes might mean for the economy and your business in the future.
