“I thought it would be interesting to see a related program that explored commonalities or differences of the festival artists—to see what informs the artists’ work and have everyone together in one program.” – Mary Magsamen, Curator of Aurora Picture Show.

See how artists see.

What is it an artist might see that spurs an idea? What are the ways artists see the world that then leads to work of art? A change in perspective, a surprising angle, an un-thought-of connection—how are creative doors opened and a project’s goal realized?

"Current Visions" looks into these questions by asking festival artists to choose a short film by another artist or create one themselves. Audiences are given visual insight into the minds of CounterCurrent17 artists, allowing viewers to learn more about the artists creative viewpoint. The films will be screened on the festival’s final day for a creative exchange about—and insight into—the creative minds that make up this year’s festival.

Aurora Picture Show is a media arts center that presents artist-made, non-commercial film and video. Aurora Picture Show is dedicated to expanding the cinematic experience and promotion the understanding of moving image art.

All CounterCurrent events are free-of-charge and most events are ticketed. Please honor your reservations by showing up! In doing so, you help us keep tickets free and open to all. Many events have limited seating and advance reservations are required. Visit for more information."
