Defend Hero At City Council Public Session says
Once again we are asking supporters of the Houston Equal Rights Ordinance (HERO) to City Council public session this coming Tuesday, August 4th to speak in support of HERO.

This past week we had more than 30 people speak in favor of HERO but this week is much more important. Our opponents know we'll be showing up this time, so they're likely to try to pack the speaker's list.

PLEASE sign up if you're available to speak.

Public session is held at Houston City Hall located at 901 Bagby Street in downtown Houston and begins at 2pm.

To speak you have to be signed up in advance, so call 832-393-1100 to be added to the list to speak in favor of the Equal Rights Ordinance.

We will provide snacks to keep everyone comfortable for a long haul.

On Tuesday:

Arrive at City Hall at 1:15pm to give yourself time to get through security and get a seat in the Council chamber.

Wear RED.

Bring your photo ID to pass through security. Bring only what you need to make security check easy and quick.

Parking at Tranquility Garage is the best option. All day costs $12.00. If you are a Metro rider, the #40 bus has stops directly in front of City Hall.

We need to pack the chamber with supporters of the Houston Equal Rights Ordinance.

When Addressing Council...

1. State which city council district you live in to show that you are a Houstonian who votes.

2. Explain that, like most Houstonians, you support the Equal Rights Ordinance.

3. Tell your personal story of how HERO will improve your life, the lives of people you care about or our city as a whole.

4. Be prepared to speak for 1-minute. A 1-minute statement will usually take up a half page of paper typed and single-spaced. It's okay to prepare your comments ahead of time.

Council members can ask questions. Don’t feel that you have to answer anything you don’t know or be an expert. It’s OK to say “I don’t know”.

Stay positive and on message - no verbal attacks on Council members or our opposition. Do not boo, hiss or act out verbally. No props are allowed at the speaker's podium.

If you have questions or issues, call Brad at 713-898-9734.

We will see you on Tuesday afternoon at City Hall.
