Contemporary Arts Museum Houston says
Join us for a conversation and book signing with Douglas Crimp. Crimp’s work as a critic, art historian, curator, and activist has profoundly influenced generations of artists. On the occasion of the release of his new memoir Before Pictures, Crimp will present a reading, followed by a conversation with Curator Dean Daderko.

While best known for his work with the “Pictures Generation,” which includes artists such as Jack Goldstein, Louise Lawler, and Sherrie Levine, Crimp has produced significant scholarship on Alvin Baltrop, Joan Jonas, and Agnes Martin, among others. Part biography and part cultural history, Before Pictures is "a courageous account of an exceptional period in Crimp’s life and the life of New York City” that addresses his experiences as a young gay man and art critic during the late 1960s and the turbulent 1970s. Crimp will sign copies of the book, which will be available for purchase in CAMH’s Museum Shop, at the close of the event.
