David Cay Johnston will discuss his new book The Making of Donald Trump.

In The Making of Donald Trump, Mr. Johnston goes back in time to look at Mr. Trump’s rise to power, including his family background, his litigation history, and his ties to organized crime.

Johnston is an investigative journalist and the winner of a 2001 Pulitzer Prize for journalism. A long-time reporter for the New York Times and former president of Investigative Reporters & Editors (IRE), he is also the author of New York Times bestsellers Perfectly Legal and Free Lunch and wrote a casino industry expose, Temples of Chance. He has won the IRE Medal and a George Polk Award for his reporting, and is currently a columnist for The Daily Beast, Investopedia, National Memo, Tax Notes and USA Today. Johnston teaches at Syracuse University College of Law and lives in Rochester, New York. He is a frequent guest on MSNBC, CNN and other broadcast outlets.

Johnston began teaching at Syracuse Law in 2009, after retiring from The New York Times in 2008.

Johnston teaches “Property and Tax from Ancient Athens to America,” a course on the history and principles of tax and property law, and a course on the history of the regulation of trade and commerce.

Best known for his coverage of how the tax system actually works, for which he won a Pulitzer Prize in 2001, Johnston also wrote groundbreaking news stories that revealed Enron did not pay taxes, that some companies use a Bermuda mail box to escape American taxes, and exposed political spying and brutality by the Los Angeles Police Department.
