Republic Yoga Houston says
What is Yoga Nidra?
Yoga Nidra is a practice in deep relaxation. Finding repose in Savasana, the student’s awareness is maintained on the body. Resting comfortably, while the mind is led systematically from one body part to the next allows an experience of bliss to bubble to the surface as the tension of one’s conscious mind releases. The practice of Yoga Nidra is a practice in ‘Yogic Sleep.’ It has been said 1hr of Yoga Nidra equates to 4hrs of traditional sleep. Sufficient rest has been proven to improve feelings of Health and overall Well-Being.
When? Full moons have a direct effect on water. Being 70% water means during the full moon phase, humans are energetically, mentally and physically influenced. When the moon is full, its gravitational relationship with the sun is in opposition and can be likened to Prana Vayu, the upward current of energy in the breath cycle—the pause after inhalation. This sustained pressure can translate into hyper-emotions, congestion, mental fatigue and feeling ‘head-strong.’
Why? Observing moon days is one way to recognize and honor the rhythms of nature so we can live in greater harmony with it. You are encouraged to receive the benefit of engaging the Parasympathetic Nervous System—your own personal system of regeneration and healing. Yoga Nidra practiced during the Full Moon offers a unique Experience of Samadhi—the height of Divine Consciousness. \

This Moon is the Cold Moon. During this month the winter cold fastens its grip, and nights are at their longest and darkest. It is also sometimes called the Moon before Yule. The term Long Night Moon is a doubly appropriate name because the midwinter night is indeed long, and because the Moon is above the horizon for a long time. The midwinter full Moon has a high trajectory across the sky because it is opposite a low Sun.
