Samara Gallery says
Samara Gallery is pleased to present Put the Needle on the Record, a solo exhibition of sculpture and paintings by Heidi Spector.

This new body of work is inspired by musical rhythm and beat, and bright pulsating lines and colors blur the lines of an aural/visual experience. The musical influences of this show include David Bowie, M.A.R.S., The Smiths, Lady Gaga, Death Cab for Cutie, The Beatles, and Oasis. The palette choices respond to each song, infusing the works with sensations of an audio/visual playlist.

Spector refers to this style as “Geometric Minimalism,” meant to deny the temptation for reflection of the soul. Still, there is no denial of meaning in these geometric minimalist works. While emotional context is illusive, the vibration of colors is evocative of self-reference in themes of musical rhythm, club life from era past, techno beats, and narcissism.

Heidi Spector has exhibited in New York, Los Angeles, Houston, Miami, and Palm Springs, and internationally in London, Toronto, and Montréal, where she lives and works.

The show runs through May 9, 2015.
