Truth 2 Power says
As many of us fight against structural racism and a destructive criminal justice system, we rarely address the collateral psychological damage of collective grief. In the second installation of the HERstory series, we invite Janet Baker to break this silence by telling her story.

As the mother of Jordan Baker, a young African American man slain by HPD police officer Juventino Castro, Janet has not only fought against the brokenness of our criminal justice system; she continues to struggle daily with the psychological effects of losing her son.

But Janet’s story is our story; while we may not experience the loss and grief at her level, we nonetheless do feel the losses of those who have died to police brutality and a systematically racist criminal justice system. However, some of us may not know how to cope with these losses; we may not know how to heal from the many hashtags that continue to populate our collective life.

Join us on February 5th, 6:30 P.M., at the Station Museum to be a part of this interactive discussion. After Ms. Baker speaks, we will collectively explore new strategies for maintaining our psychological health and continue to push our nation into becoming a safe place for Black bodies to pursue life, liberty, and happiness.
