Historic First Ward Talk says
The First Ward Civic Council's Historic Preservation Committee is proud to present a Historic First Ward Talk!

The Historic Talk will discuss the original boundaries of the First Ward in the late 19th century, and its community and commerce til the early 20th century. There will also be some focus on the buildings and places of interest within the First Ward neighborhood!

Come join us for an evening of fact and history and learn more about this very special area of Houston! Tickets are $8!

The Speaker of this Historic Talk is Betty Trapp Chapman - a Houston historian, author, educator and ardent supporter of preservation. She has written numerous books, among them, "Historic Houston, An Illustrated History and Resource Guide" and "Houston Women, Invisible Threads in a Tapestry", both published in 2000, as well as "Historic Photos of Houston" published in 2006, followed by "Rough Road to Justice: the Journey of Women Lawyers in Texas" in 2008, and "Remembering Houston", in 2010.

Ms. Chapman has served as a chair for the Houston Archaeological and Historic Commission (HAHC), and has been on the boards of the Heritage Society, Greater Houston Preservation Alliance (now Preservation Houston), and the Houston History Association. In 2011 she was awarded the Mayor's Citizen Award for Historic Preservation. She has also written a weekly column for the Houston Business Journal entitled "Houston Heritage", and has lectured on Houston's history at the Rice Glasscock School for Continuing Education.
