Independent Bookstore Day At Brazos Bookstore says
It’s time for Independent Bookstore Day again! We’ll be celebrating in style with a series of events for kids and adults. Swing by these daytime events, then join us in the evening for a reading with Inprint.

10:30am: Animal Story Time

Join us for a special story time in honor of Independent Bookstore Day! We are partnering with Bellaire’s Nature Discovery Center for BUNNY BUDDIES, a very awesome hour of bunny-themed stories, puppets, and a real live rabbit. Plus our usual snacks and coloring.

12-2pm: Writers in the Schools (WITS) at Brazos

Chris Cander is one of our favorite local authors, and a longtime instructor for Writers in the Schools (WITS). For two hours, Cander will be on hand as our special guest bookseller. Brazos will donate 15% of all sales between 12pm and 2pm to WITS.

2pm-4pm: Drunk Coloring: Cormac McCarthy Edition

Cormac McCarthy is one of our favorite violent miserablists. Come color his bleak worldview! We’ll have special edition Cormac McCarthy coloring books for sale (made by the Brazos staff), and special McCarthy-themed cocktails from Under the Volcano. And of course, only two colors are allowed: red and black.

4pm-5pm: Summer of Austen Reception

All summer long, Brazos Bookstore will celebrate the life and work of Jane Austen with special “Summer of Austen” programming, in partnership with Films at the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, Rice Cinema, and Main Street Theater - Houston. In anticipation of this program, come meet the artist behind our new window art: Jade Young! We’ll have light refreshments.

7pm: Inprint Poetry Workshop Reading with Erika Jo Brown

For decades, the partnership between Inprint and Brazos Bookstore has anchored Houston’s vibrant literary community. In honor of this partnership, local poet Erika Jo Brown brings her Inprint workshop students to Brazos for a special reading, celebrating Houston’s literary scene and the writers of the future.
