International Holocaust Remembrance Day says
Please join us in observing the universal commemoration of the victims of the Holocaust. This day was designated by the United Nations to coincide with the anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birken by the Soviet troops. This year, we are pleased to honor the late Philippine President Manuel Quezon. The story will share the chronicles a real-life Casablanca, in which a high-profile group of poker buddies — including the Frieder brothers of Cincinatti, Philippine Quezon, and U.S. High Commissioner Paul McNutt and Colonel Dwight Eisenhower — hatched an intricate international plan of rescue and re-settlement, saving 1,300 Jews from certain death in Nazi concentration camps.

Remarks by:
The Honorable Leo M. Herrera-Lim, Consul General of the Philippines
and Barbara Sasser, producer, “Rescue in the Philippines” and granddaughter of the Frieders.
The observance ends with a processional and stone laying with the Consular Corps
and high school students in the memorial garden.
