Introduction to Accounting: What every nonprofit arts administrator should know

Workshop participants will learn basic fundamentals of accounting including basic accounting methods, setting up a chart of accounts, various bookkeeping systems, and the importance of having a document retention and destruction policy. Participants will review and compare an audited financial statement with one from QuickBooks.

About the Instructor

Kathy Ploch is a CPA and the Entrepreneurial Services Department Manager at Harper & Pearson Company, P.C. She has been in public accounting preparing all types of tax returns for over 30 years and was the Houston CPA Society’s President in 2009-2010. Kathy is currently on the Texas State Society of CPAs Board of Directors, the TSCPA Federal Tax Policy Committee, the TSCPA Relations with IRS Committee, and the AICPA IRS Advocacy & Relations Committee. She was the President of Texas Accountants & Lawyers for the Arts (TALA) in 2013 and still volunteers to help artists and arts organizations with their QuickBooks and tax needs.

About Financial Literacy for the Arts

Financial Literacy for the Arts is a comprehensive program offering financial and accounting training, mentorships and services to qualified arts and cultural organizations in the Greater Houston area. The program builds relationships between the private financial industry and nonprofit arts and cultural organizations through workshops and business services/

Single workshops are $35 per individual. A package of four workshops is $100 per individual registrant (packages may not be split between multiple individuals).
