MUSA is a solo art show by Sonia P. Flores. Musa is taken from the samba school title, Musa do Carnaval, which translates to, "The Muse of the Carnaval" . The muse is the queen of the samba school she represents which is high honor. She is a jewel bedecked dancing goddess that leads her samba school in dance. Originating in Brazil, she is a skilled dancer who is selected for her enticing dancing skills as she inspires all elements of the parade. "Musa" becomes the soul inspiration for the themed parade representing Brazilians world wide. Brazil's Carnival is internationally known for its artistic, creative, and rambunctious celebration.

In this solo show "Musa", Sonia P. Flores plays with the themes of the muse by admiring a woman's body, personality, and profession. Inspired by the muses from greek and modern history as strong intelligent female role models whom are often overlooked and undermined as sex objects, Sonia is inspired by recognizing female peers. She plays with the feminine "mystique" of women who invoke feelings of inspiration and creativity. Sonia compares the Musa's strength and beauty with the strength and beauty that exist in the every day woman.

Sonia plays with the notion of being feminine. Sonia's aesthetically pleasing painting style distracts the viewer while looking closely and getting to know the artist. The audience then realizes that she in fact focuses on the playful and sultry side of femininity. The artist embraces the rich colors of Central and South America with the Afro-rhythms often found in Latin music. There will be a special performance from Y.E. Torres, a long time muse of Sonia P. Flores. Y.E Torres is a professional movement artist, instructor, model, muse & specialty entertainer: oriental dance, improvisational muscle dance, fire bellydancer/fire breather.
