The Menil Collection says
Malian artist Amahigueré Dolo is internationally recognized for his sculptures and drawings that exhort expressive forms in found pieces of wood and in the crumpled, convex surfaces of repurposed cement paper. In conjunction with the exhibition ReCollecting Dogon, Dolo presents his work for the first time in a US museum. His installation Adouron Bew or “Components of the World” (2007) is composed of 86 figural sculptures planted in a bed of red ochre earth. Dolo joins Curator of Collections Paul R. Davis and Jessica Hurd in an evening conversation about his installation and the multivalent works of Dogon visual culture in the exhibition. Discussion will be in French and English.

ReCollecting Dogon is on view at the Menil Collection February 3–July 9, 2017.
