Poet Trees At Buffalo Bayou For #National Poetry Month

Writers in the Schools (WITS) says
During #NationalPoetryMonth for the entire month of April, Writers in the Schools (WITS) will transform trees into “poet-trees” throughout Buffalo Bayou Park in partnership with renowned, Houston-based artist and WITS board member, Nicola Parente. The public is invited to write poems, quotes, and wishes on tags and hang them on the trees for others to read.

Visitors are encouraged to snap a pic of their poem on the tree and share it on social media using the hashtag #poettree. Select photos will be posted to the WITS Facebook page and Instagram and photos will appear on an interactive map on the WITS website.

Last year, the installation drew more than 500,000 visitors. When tags ran out, people brought their own and decorated the trees with words, locks, and small purses filled with donations of cash. The poet-trees were even the site of two marriage proposals.

You can find the trees at Eleanor Tinsley Park near Allen Parkway! The trees will be up from APRIL 1 to APRIL 30, so get that poetry up and share your photos! Learn more at witshouston.org.

Thank you Buffalo Bayou Partnership for sharing your love of poetry with the city of Houston!
