The event creator says
Measles is one of the leading killers of children worldwide. An estimated 400 people die each day from the disease. However measles and rubella are easily preventable with a safe and effective vaccine. It only costs about $1 to vaccinate a child.

Join the Rice's American Red Cross Chapter as we join the fight against these two viral diseases and work towards the Measles and Rubella Initiative goal.

Please help vaccinate a village by donating any amount possible. Dig around the bottom of your backpack for a few extra quarters and help a child on the other side of the world.

$1 : Save a child!
$5 : Save a home!
$10: Save a school!

Swing by on Wed., April 15th or Mon., April 20th anytime from 1-5 PM to catch us in front of the Rice Coffeehouse. Help us construct a vaccinated paper village by pasting your a child/home/school to our poster after donating. We will upload a photo of you with your signed contribution to our village on Facebook in order to help spread this important message.

Thank you for your support! :)

The Measles and Rubella Initiative goal, which is part of the Global Vaccine Action Plan, is to reduce measles deaths worldwide by 95 percent by 2015 and eliminate measles and rubella in at least five of the six World Health Organization regions by 2020.

Since 2001, the M&RI has supported 88 countries to deliver more than 1.8 billion doses of measles vaccine, helped to raise measles vaccination coverage to 84% globally, and reduced measles deaths by 75%. These efforts have contributed significantly to reducing child mortality as per Millennium Development Goal 4.
