Chris Shepherd and Steven Satterfield, chef of Atlanta restaurant Miller Union, both consider farmers to be rock stars. As Chris likes to remind customers, “No farm, no food.” Steven has a similar mindset and believes in making the most out of the edible parts of the plant, from root to leaf, which is also the name of his new cookbook. Chris will welcome Steven to Houston at the end of June with a special dinner featuring the bounty of Southern produce in celebration of his cookbook.

Steven, a three-time James Beard Award finalist for Best Chef: Southeast, has been dubbed the “Vegetable Shaman” by The New York Times’ Sam Sifton. He and Chris got to know each other through their involvement in the Southern Foodways Alliance, and Chris looks forward to showcasing his friend’s simple, elegant Southern cooking style at the dinner.

The Root to Leaf dinner will take place on Monday, June 29 at 7pm. Chris and the Underbelly team will cook the multi-course dinner, inspired by recipes in Steven’s cookbook. Tickets are $175 and include food, wine, a signed copy of the cookbook, tax and gratuity.
