Multicultural Education and Counseling through the Arts (MECA) says
MECA is hosting an upcoming workshop, Art & Autism: How the Healing Power of Art Increases Self Expression, Unites Families and Restores Hope. This two day event, taking place April 28th and 29th and in conjunction with National Autism Awareness month, is designed to educate, bring awareness, and offer comfort in the daily challenges of children and families affected by autism, through the participation of various art forms.
Opening night on Friday will commence with an art exhibition by the workshop’s creator, Janice Warren, entitled Silent Sheroes, which offers an in depth look at how the common responses to a child’s initial diagnosis and ongoing symptoms can be expressed artistically as a means to offer healing and unity for the entire family. Also part of opening night is a phenomenal guest speaker/author Judy Blake with Family to Family Network, an interpretive dance, a musical performance, spoken word, and a special, reflective walk through installation entitled “A Woman in Winter.” It’s a night you don’t want to miss!
