Social media is almost an essential component of any event, large or small. But for an event the size of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo™, it is critical.

How can such a huge event with so many moving parts successfully build a strong online community that interacts year-round? Betsy Ellison has helped do that and more with the various social media channels for this huge traditional Houston event, with over half a million collective followers.

She will share with us how she does it as the sole social media manager, and how the Rodeo is leveraging other resources to create content and connection with its huge fan base with such programs as #RODEOHOUSTON Unplugged.

Betsy Ellison, Manager, Social Media, Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo™

Betsy Ellison joined the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo™ staff in May 2011 as the communications coordinator. In this role, Ellison was responsible for developing content for the RODEOHOUSTON® social media platforms, as well as Show editorial and information, including the production of Show publications, brochures, press releases, and other communication materials.

In September 2013, Ellison became the Show’s social media manager and continues to manage the Show’s social platforms, which collectively have more than half a million fans from across the Houston area, the state of Texas and around the world. She also is responsible for managing and implementing social campaigns to engage the Show’s fans year-round, both online and offline.
