As an Urban Wild member, you have an insider’s opportunity to see things in the park that not many others do. Join us as we explore and care for a small section of Camp Logan, the WWI‐era training camp for which Memorial Park is named. MPC is proud to offer this service opportunity in partnership with National Public Lands Day, the nation's largest single-day volunteer effort to improve and enhance the public lands that Americans enjoy.

The area where you’ll be working is important, both to us here in Houston and nationally as well. You’ll be time traveling back almost 100 years to September 1917, guided by archeologists and historians, to learn about the young soldiers who trained here at Camp Logan, and what they left behind. Urban Wild members have said they want to give back to Memorial Park and Houston – this is an incredible opportunity to do so. This is a morning of service to your park that only happens once a year, so you don’t want to miss out!

We’ll start at 9a at the Running Trails Center and hear a little bit of history about the site. We’ll walk a short distance, about 1,200 feet, to the work area where we’ll clear twigs and debris from the footprint of one of the original Camp Logan structures. The morning will wrap up by 11a.

Please use the link above to register. We’ll provide water and alll the tools you’ll need, or bring your own favorites if you wish. This is an exclusive opportunity for members of Urban Wild, and you’ll see Memorial Park in a whole new way.
