What Ever Happened To Baby Jane?

Alamo Drafthouse Houston says
By the early 1960s, most of the actresses who had been box office gold in the 1930s and 1940s had either retired or moved on to television. But Joan Crawford and Bette Davis still had their claws out, fighting for space on the silver screen. They also delighted in fighting with each other and the archrivals turned their decades-long feud into a surprise blockbuster when they co-starred in 1962's WHAT EVER HAPPENED TO BABY JANE?

Sibling rivalry doesn't get any nastier (and more poisonously funny) than the clash of the Hudson sisters: Former vaudeville cutie Baby Jane (Davis) and one-time movie idol Blanche (Crawford) are unhappily stuck together in a crumbling Hollywood mansion, where they regularly rake up recriminations and dredge up the disappointments of the past. Blanche is now confined to a wheelchair, with Jane as his crabby (and boozy) caretaker. Quarrels and accusations eventually turn into mind games and sinister schemes as frail Blanche tries to escape the house before Jane goes completely bonkers.

The movie's success reinvigorated the careers of both stars. It did not, however, bring them any closer together offscreen. When Davis was nominated for a best actress Oscar and Crawford was not, the catfight escalated to new heights, much to the delight of gossip columnists all over the globe.
