Although the word paraphernalia often brings to mind odds and ends needed for various activities, artist Li Chen channels its original meaning – items not included in the dowry – in her solo exhibit, Paraphernalia. The exhibit, held at the multi-disciplinary community space known as Almacen, tackles personal narratives, rituals, and faith and gender issues of femininity and masculinity. Paraphernalia is a mix of glass fusion pieces, which like the themes of the exhibit, contain a duality of qualities – dangerous yet gentle, hard yet transparent. Don’t miss this intersection of personal artistic expression and social commentary, open until the end of August.
