These are the words designer Maya Negri embodied while designing her 2016-2017 winter collection, “Shadow of Light.” Her clever collection plays with binaries like silence and fierceness, classic and avant-garde, and monochromatic and colorful to produce a versatile, current, and powerful new line of garments.

With a focus on dramatic and bold colors, Negri’s newest project searches for a balance between the fast-paced rhythms of modern day life and introspection. Through fashion, she forces us to disconnect from the everyday noise of society and look inside ourselves. With the desert as her backdrop, the clothes become an extension of a woman’s surroundings as well as her personality, brought to life in desert earth tones such as camel, khaki and tobacco as well as blues, blacks, whites, and grays.
Ranging from classic, more casual tops like loose fitting cobalt t-shirts to elegant white evening gowns, the unique fabrics in “Shadow of Light” are purely MayaNegri. As always, her brand has successfully blended style with comfort. With five stores nationwide, Negri will expand her line to an international platform this summer joining New York’s famed Fashion Week for a special collaborative project.
