Jaffa, also known in Hebrew as Yafo and in Arabic as Yafa, is one of Israel’s most promising up-and-coming areas. Here, Jews and Arabs live side by side in an area overflowing with antique shops, gorgeous cobblestones roads, and many opportunities for walking, noshing, and tasting the day's catch

Romantic winding streets

Old Jaffa is located Northwest of Jaffa, on a hill along the Mediterranean Sea. Discover one of the most stroll-worthy areas: an antique charm, incredible walkaways, and picturesque buildings with Tel Aviv shorelines connecting from every angle into a bright blue tapestry of the sea. Jaffa’s old port is one of the oldest ports in the world, dating back to the Canaanite period; gorgeous for taking pictures, tasting the catch of the day from the fishermen, and uncovering one of Israel’s most romantic areas. Today, the ancient port is undergoing a process of renovation and rejuvenation and is being developed as a local hub of the Blue Economy – an innovative approach that wishes to utilize the sea and the shore as economic growth engines while preserving their unique ecosystem. The port is home to several innovative startup companies, and if you are lucky you might come across local entrepreneurs conducting experiments. Follow the warehouses into winding alleys and visit the Ilana Goor Museum, an architectural pearl with rotating collections. Adjacent is another small museum, opened and operated by the world-famous Tel Aviv native mentalist Uri Geller. A stroll through the museum traces the story of Geller's long career, his many celebrity friends, and his trademark act –bending spoons. Kedumim Square is the center, a picturesque location running wild with archeologic remains, galleries, and restaurants. Discover the Zodiac Fountain, made of 12 chalkstone sculptures of each zodiac sign or the floating orange statue, an orange tree planted in a clay pot that hangs with cables on the houses around it. Then, continue to the famous Wishing Bridge, where the legend says that anyone who holds their zodiac sign and looks at the sea will be guaranteed that dreams will come true! Continue with a stroll around the Artists' Quarter, visit galleries and museums, and dine at some of the unique restaurants. Finally, check out HaPisga Garden (The Summit Garden) for a spectacular lookout and admire the flowers, greenery, and breathtaking panoramic views of the Tel Aviv coastline. Art lovers will love Gallery Chelouche, one of Israel's leading contemporary art galleries, showcasing temporary exhibitions from many leading artists. Admire the ancient architecture and the old ottoman building’s vintage charm. Use Jaffa’s Clock Tower Square as your compass; from here, you can take the winding restaurant-lined roads to a stroll-worthy area full of dining opportunities, bars, and vintage shopping alongside local boutiques. You should continue to the Flea Market on the eastern side of Yeffet street. There you will enjoy dozens of stores offering antiques and countless bars, coffee shops, and food stands. On 2 Marzuk VeAzar street, on the northern corner of Clock Tower Square, the Tel Aviv-Yafo Municipality operates a tourist information center that is open 7 days a week. Feel free to walk in, pick up a free map, and consult an extremely friendly team of experts.

Something for everyone

Park HaTachana, The Old Railway Station Park, is a stunning area dating back to the late 19th century when Jaffa was connected by rail to various points of the Middle East. The historic buildings are today used for restaurants, shops, and bars, and the track to Jerusalem was converted into one of the city's most popular hangouts – HaMesila Park, which is the perfect area for biking or walking. Underneath this historic path rides the city's brand new light rail system – connecting Tel Aviv to its surrounding cities. Feel free to enter the magnificent Elifelet Station in HaMesila Park and enjoy the brand-new line. Jaffa is a hub for culture, art, and inspiration, as well as one of the most exciting places to walk around and discover excellent food, culture, and a unique vibe unlike any other place in the world.
