A new branch of the Kiortosh chain is replacing Lehamim bakery inside the Carmel market, offering the ultimate temptation for the weak: a hollowed out, crispy dough, filled with ice cream, fruit, and other surprises.

The Kiortosh, known to anyone and everyone who has ever lived in or visited this city for the past few decades, is an addictive pastry that Israelis have developed from the Czech 'Trdelník.' In Prague, they typically bake it on coals; however, Israelis take a slightly different approach, roasting their pastries in an oven (losing that smoky flavor, but remaining delicious nonetheless). This European pastry has a long history trailing back to Transylvania, with a facelift in Hungary where the taste changed slightly along with the name ('Kürtőskalács').

If, until now, you've managed to ignore the Kiortosh and not get lost following the unbelievable smell to one of its locations, there is now an inescapable branch smack dab in the center of Shuk HaCarmel (replacing what was once Lehamim). Here, they're filling their Kiortoshes with vanilla ice cream and showering them with hot chocolate, plus adding on fruits and chocolate pieces.

NIS 25 for a huge portion you'll claim you can't finish, gobble down in one sitting, and regret immediately. 11 HaCarmel, Tel Aviv
