Large and in charge: the Holon Farm Gallery empowers plus-size women in "XLove"

Ever since the fashion industry took it upon themselves to warp our perception of the healthy female body, the term "plus-size" has been treated like a four-letter word. 60% of Israeli women over the age of 20 are considered on the larger side from a subjective fashion standpoint; this majority continues to fall victim to discrimination in the workplace and social environments. Perhaps it's a subtle comment or a certain look – either way the fashion, heath, and media worlds sanctify thinness and everyone else blindly follows suit.

XLove, the current design exhibition at the Farm Gallery in Holon, has a beautiful objective in mind: to bring the modern woman out from behind the curtain so that she no longer feels small behind the powerful Man, but rather large and in charge of her body. 32 works by designers from various domains, including: fashion, textile, visual communication, photography, illustration, and more, will present works that address the XL size as something significant, current, intriguing, exciting, powerful – to spark a more positive dialogue surrounding beauty. After all, it comes in endless shapes and sizes.

Instead of fat shaming, XLove talks back to sizeists. Instead of boycotting larger women in society, the exhibition promotes them. It's time to not only be larger than life, but to feel larger than life, too.

Exhibition lasts until April 30. Hachava, The Farm Gallery. 1 Hanechoshet St (corner of Hamelacha), Holon. Wed-Thu 17:00-20:00, Fri-Sat 10:00-14:00.
