Why Pay Full Price? The Best Discount Food Deals in Tel Aviv

Because this city isn’t exactly a cheap eats town

We don’t have to tell you that Tel Aviv is insanely expensive. Fortunately (unfortunately?) the food is amazing! It’s hard to resist a fresh shake, even if it’s 32NIS or a hot-from-the-oven plain bagel, even at 8NIS (yes, Tel Aviv has great bagels!). The reason many of the city’s best spots are as good as they are is because they take quality – and freshness – seriously. You won’t get yesterday’s eats, today. In a last-ditch effort to clean out their shops, many of Tel Aviv’s best spots offer discount deals shortly before closing.

Here’s a look at some of the deals worth queuing up for:

Many people in Tel Aviv consider XOHO’s cookies and bagels the best in the city, but they’re not cheap especially for anyone used to American sized baked goods. Every day – except for weekends – from 5-630PM all remaining cookies (reach for the classic, monster, and oatmeal raisin!) and bagels are half off for your gastronomic pleasure. While at XOHO ask for a “Secret Tel Aviv” card, which you get free and gets you a free cookie every time you stop in to XOHO for a meal.

Boutique Central

Two hours before closing you’ll get 1+1 on all of Boutique Central’s savory pastries, breakfast pastries (jump at the chance to scoop up their halva and pistachio ones!), muffins, and sandwiches. This discount does not apply on weekends. There are no special end-of-day discounts on breads, but if you buy one, you get the second one 20% off any time of day.

Arcaffe

Like Bakery, not all Arcaffe locations close at the same time, but an hour before closing their breads – including focaccias – and most of their sweet and savory baked goods as well as sandwiches are 1+1. While you never know what you might get, they usually have a solid selection left, especially of chocolate rugalach and cinnamon pastries. Bread-wise, if you see some loaves of their olive or their fruit & nut loaf, buy as many as you can! They will slice the bread for you and all of their loaves can be frozen for weeks (if not more).

Jusa

An hour before closing Jusa offers 2+1 on all their fresh, cold-pressed juices and shakes. Some Fridays, an hour before closing, there are also discounts on their freshly made products like chia pudding, muesli, and oatmeal pudding. Note, however, that it’s not done every Friday so check their social media channels before you head out to stock-up on products for the weekend.

Owned by R2M, the parent company that also owns Bakery, Delicatessen runs the same 1+1 deal as Bakery on their breads and baked goods and 50% off sandwiches and select prepared products an hour before closing. Note, however, that this discount doesn’t apply on weekends.

Lehamim is carb heaven. From cookies so warm and fresh that the chocolate often oozes on your fingers to their signature Festive Challah (a round weave with a half dozen multicolored seeds) it’s impossible not to want to devour everything in sight. Every night bread is discounted 50%, but the time varies. For their 24-hour location it’s usually starting at 9PM and for the others, depending how much is left, it’s 30 to 60 minutes before closing. Ready-made salads, sandwiches, sweet and savory pastries, and those aforementioned large cookies are often discounted an hour or so before closing at the locations that are not 24-hours, but the timing and exact amount (usually 1+1 or 50%) is at the discretion of the location’s manager so call ahead.

One of the best bakery chains in the city, Bakery has mastered the art of French pastries. Whether you come to pick up a crunchy, fresh-from-the-oven baguette or any of the delectable pastries like the caramel-glazed cream puffs and the creamy-rich mille-feuille, everything you pick here is memorable and worth the hype. Bakery also serves sandwiches and salads, making it the ideal place for your next lunch date. Check out their other locations at 13 Yad Haruzim St and 67 Weizmann St.

You might think because EATS Cafeteria is located inside Beit Hanna that all they serve is steamed veggies and brown rice, but that’s far from the truth. In fact, while they have a number of daily prepared fresh salads, stews, and grain dishes they also have about a dozen different pastries, cookies, brownies, and more. Weekdays those pastries and cookies are 1+1 an hour before closing. Like Superfood, however, EATS doesn’t close till 22:00 so come for a late workout at Beit Hanna, linger in EATS’ beautiful outdoor space, and reward yourself with a sugary delight afterwards.

For those on a health kick there’s no better place to stock up than an hour before closing at Superfood Boutique. Unfortunately, they close at 22:00 most days so you’ll have to wait till quite late, but it’s worth it for their 1+1 deal on almost everything including salads, sandwiches, wraps, breakfast parfaits, cold-pressed juices, lattes, teas, and powder shots. Note that their dessert fridge and anything made-to-order like acai bowls is excluded.
