While many people relish the holiday and embrace the traditional matzah brei, many others curse the fact that they’re paying top shekel for what is often sub-par food (think a bread basket filled with what amounts to basically flavor-less crackers).

Because you can’t count on your favorite kosher (like Malka) or non-kosher (like Café XOHO) spots to be open, we did the heavy lifting for you and have rounded up the best Passover week options – whether you’re looking to go classic Rabbicertified or whether you’d rather put a new spin on the Passover dinner act– however your matzah crumbles.

If a no-fuss Passover dinner sounds appealing to you (it sure does to us…) make a beeline straight for Alena at The Norman Hotel. The buttoned-up eatery will take care of all the night’s to-dos as they’re hosting a 600NIS prix fixe Seder that begins at 18:00 on April 19. The dinner includes shared starters for the table plus all the traditional goodies like charoset. Vegetable soup and knaidlach will be served along with a choice of mains (Beef Bourguignon, slow-cooked lamb, as well as a vegetarian option). There will be shared desserts for the table to cap things off (including chocolate mousse and sorbets). The price includes soft drinks, tea, and coffee. Note however that the restaurant is not certified Kosher for Passover.

Open regular hours throughout Passover.

Their restaurant menu will continue serving nonkosher for Passover options, but will have a long list of special gluten-free items. For those seeking to stock up on groceries for the week, the deli will also have a long list of special vegan options available before they close, including mock gefilte fish made from tofu and seaweed, vegan lasagna filled with spinach and cashew cream, as well as wheat-free vegan cakes.

Hamburg

If you’re craving a burger head to this casual joint offering options ranging from 160 to 340 grams as well as a triple burger option (made with beef, lamb, and entrecôte), along with a vegetarian mushroom and soy burger. For Passover, Hamburg will offer their traditional wheat buns as well as a matzah-based option. You’ll also be able to get all the classic trimmings like fried onions, cheese, hot peppers, and guacamole as well as out-ofthe- box ones like smoked goose, pineapple in chili sauce, and garlic butter. Hamburg might not get you beach-body ready, but it sure hits the spot after a long day.

Avocada

It remains to be seen what Avocada will do once avocados go out of season, but in the meantime, there’s no better time to enjoy an avocadobun burger followed with some delicious (seriously!) avocado ice cream. While this spot isn’t certified Kosher for Passover, there are many flour-free options that fit the bill. Plus, it’s pretty much the perfect spot to detox from all those glasses of wine you had at Seder.

With the kids off from school (and, hopefully, you off from work), Passover week is the perfect time to try out a new spot like this just-opened gelato destination from Austrian glacier chef Stefan Macher. Stefan’s gelatos are made from natural ingredients and are both preservative- and food coloring-free. What really sets this spot apart is that in addition to traditional flavors like Belgian chocolate, vanilla, and tiramisu, they’ve got unusual ones like Linzer torte or Sachartorte and apple strudel. Note that while they are not certified Kosher for Passover, no waffles or cakes will be sold during Passover.

21 Tchernichovsky St, Tel Aviv.
